getting smarter by injecting current to your skull

A few electrical pulses may miraculously increase your IQ? Too good to be true! Some research study may water down this cognitive-enhancement craze (so-called tDCS, transcranial direct-current stimulation)  http://spectrum.ieee.org/biomedical/ethics/brain-hackers-beware-scientist-says-tdcs-has-no-effect

bias against women and the black to pursue advanced degrees?

顯然很多美國大學教授還是認為,女生和黑人不太具有讀博士班的天份 (但亞洲人沒有這個困擾)。 這是美國大學教授的偏見還是根深蒂固的文化使然?

pick up rich parents to learn 32M more words before age 4

The link between parental income and a child's academic success has grown stronger than ever before. The assets that rich parents pass on to their children are invulnerable to inheritance tax; it is the "brains". Children of professionals hear 32M more words by the age of four than those of parents on welfare. Only rich families's children or very clever kids from poor families benefit from the as-is U.S. education system. All others are relegating to the marginal in this society.

No betrayal from the pitch and volume of your speech

If you have (or pretend to have) power or authority, your speech becomes sturdier in pitch and more varied in volume. Probably a perfect mindset during interview or when giving a presentation.

higher test scores by longhand note taking

Take class notes by laptop may be very handy but it is at the expense of lowering your test scores, especially the conceptual questions, compared with the longhand note takers.

tender moments enhance baby's cognitive development

It is well-known that early constructive stimuli to babies have immense impact for their later formative cognitive development. However, it is still to my surprise the huge extent of the dependence of environment on the exponential increase of the neural synaptic connections in baby's brain. Any tender moments between parents and babies are implicitly enhancing the baby's future cognitive development.

Sisyphean task to map humanity's neuron network

It is expected to take more than 10 years from the best minds on this planet just to map the neuron networks of a fruit fly's brain. To have a complete map of the inscrutable humanity's brain neuron networks may take many generations, if possible.   http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/11/magazine/sebastian-seungs-quest-to-map-the-human-brain.html

crazy school with 16-hour class time every day

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/04/magazine/inside-a-chinese-test-prep-factory.html

There is no greater joy in life than giving

Another philanthropic story from Forbes#180 Marc Benioff who has persistently dedicated to the education and the children's health. His company's employees are encouraged to "adopt" schools in community service, just the same exhortations he gives to the other tech entrepreneurs. "There is no greater joy in life than giving," said Benioff.
