Not a cooling saucer any more
Since the founding of United States, Senate had been a "cooling saucer" (quipped by George Washington) for the hot and partisan Congress while Supreme Court is a moderator on the issues that legislative bodies could not come to terms. Now, by invoking "nuclear option" in Senate, even the Supreme Court is destined to become partisan. Democracy in the U.S. is insidiously relegated to populism.
